Calm Cards were created to support the upcoming generation of children who now more than ever require emotional and mental support. Many children suffer with tough emotions and these cards can help spark ideas of what to do to calm down.
Calm Cards are for children aged between 3-12 years old and give them actions that help to soothe themselves when needed. They are designed to help children become more resilient and able to cope with their emotions. Children that take more action to feel better when needed, feel more empowered to manage tough emotions and can feel more emotionally confident as they know inside, they can cope with difficult feelings.
Calm Cards are created by Allie Ackland-Prpic, a Child Psychologist who has worked in schools, as a therapist and has created and ran a school wellbeing program called the Still Mind Program in Australian Schools for the last 8 years. Allies work in schools inspired the creation of Calm Cards, identifying a gap in the curriculum and a needed tool to support children’s mental health.
They are a visual tool to help children identify what they need to become emotionally empowered and resilient. Calm Cards have already been used in schools for over 2 years, with school students, counsellors and teachers. They are a great tool for therapists, parents and teachers across the country. Children can also use the cards for themselves when they are feeling, sad, worried or angry to remember they can feel better by taking a simple action such as ‘Ride’ (a bike), ‘Take deep breaths’, ‘Play with pets’, ’Go in my room’ or ‘Take a break’.
These cards make a great gift for any child as they can all benefit from ideas of what to do when experiencing inevitable negative emotions. These cards are a useful tool for families, schools and therapists that have already been used to support many children in Australia
