World Mental Health Day
At Shiny Storm, we are constantly looking at the healing, balancing and grounding help crystals can provide. We have seen the power of the Earth’s beautiful crystals within our workplace and our homes. We know without a doubt that meditation with them allows us to clear harmful energy and welcome love, self-awareness and joy into our lives. As we observe World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October however, it’s important to recognise that crystals are not the only tool we can use to promote our mental wellbeing.
Under the umbrella of mental health is our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: “The state of our mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.1 Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.”
As a psychologist, Shiny Storm founder Ana spent years working with clients, family and friends with mental health issues. From those who simply felt a little anxious ‘all the time’ to those suffering major relationship breakdowns or depression, Ana has helped bring clients back to a better state of wellbeing. As a deeply kind-hearted, caring and intuitive professional, Ana knows that while crystals were certainly a part of her healing toolbox, they weren’t be the only ones. Many other means and devices can be used to help clear the dark clouds we feel from time to time.
Friends and family.
Sometimes, simply opening up to someone that life seems hard, is all it takes to lift the weight off your shoulders. Conversations with a trusted friend or family member which start with, ‘I’m not feeling great at the moment,’ can help. Make sure that trusted person is in a good mental health space themselves, you are safe, will be free of interruptions and have plenty of time to talk through your concerns.
GPs, Counsellors and therapists.
These trained professionals have a wealth of experience and knowledge in dealing with mental health issues. The GP, counsellor and therapist role is essentially very simple: to make you feel better. It is not a failure to accept our mental health needs work, and these experts will help with a kind ear, diagnosis, strategies and more.
Physical Health.
A walk in nature. A swim at the beach. Natural foods packed with nutrients. A good night’s sleep. A (long) break from your digital device. Sometimes our mental health can be improved enormously when we improve our physical health. Moving, putting our phone down, eating and sleeping well can make the days seem much brighter. With a better functioning body, our mind tends to follow suit.
Meditation.
When we quiet our mind, amazing healing happens. Meditation can be extremely difficult for those experiencing poor mental health, so to begin with Shiny Storm recommends short, guided meditations whilst holding loving Clear Quartz. Once you find the process of meditation easier and your mind is no longer racing throughout, extend the time, experiment with other crystals and enjoy the relaxing ‘brain break’.
Good mental health and wellbeing are something we all deserve. Don’t be afraid to say you’re not okay. Peace and love from the entire Shiny Storm team.
